Amare McJolly currently serves as Choral Director at Starr's Mill High School, where he conducts Chanticleer, Con-Anima Voce, Panthera Vox, and Bel Canto. He is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association and the Georgia Music Educators Association. Since joining the Starr’s Mill faculty, Mr. McJolly has worked to continue the program’s longstanding tradition of musical excellence. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, he earned both a Master of Music in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the Fred and Dinah Gretsch School of Music at Georgia Southern University. While pursuing his graduate degree, he served as a Graduate Assistant in the choral department and completed advanced conducting studies under Dr. Shannon Jeffreys. During his time at Georgia Southern, he also studied voice with Sarah Hancock, Dr. Arrika Gregory, and Dr. Jane Marrero, and gained valuable conducting experience leading the Gospel Choir and Southern Sirens ensembles. Mr. McJolly was a member of the internationally acclaimed and award-winning Georgia Southern Chorale. During his time with the ensemble, he participated in numerous national and international concert tours, festivals, and competitions. In 2022, he traveled to Berlin, Germany for the Sing Berlin International Choral Festival and Competition, where he appeared as a featured soloist and where the ensemble earned the Grand Prize and the highest competition scores in the university's history. Most recently, in 2025, he traveled with the Chorale to the CantaRode International Choral Festival and Competition in Kerkrade, Netherlands, where the ensemble earned third place overall and was recognized as the highest-ranked collegiate choir in the competition. Throughout his time at Georgia Southern, Mr. McJolly was deeply involved in student leadership and service. He founded the Georgia Southern Gospel Choir and served as its president while also establishing the School of Music Student Advisory Committee. In addition, he served in the university's Student Government Association, including leadership positions on its executive board. As a tenor, Mr. McJolly has performed with the Georgia Southern Chorale and in opera productions, including Sweeney Todd, served as a staff chorister for several churches in coastal Georgia, and continues to be active as a church musician in the Metro Atlanta region. He has also received recognition in regional vocal competitions through the National Association of Teachers of Singing. In 2023, he was honored as the premiere soloist in composer Stacey V. Gibbs’s new composition I Go to the Rock with the Georgia Southern Chorale at the National Collegiate Choral Organization Conference. Mr. McJolly is committed to fostering musical excellence, leadership, and a lifelong appreciation for choral music among his students. In his free time, he enjoys traveling to new destinations and spending time with family and friends. He looks forward to continuing the tradition of excellence and growth within the Starr's Mill choral program.
